June 2019 – English National Simmental Show honours for Sacombe

Having travelled to Norfolk Show for this year’s English National Show, our team certainly held their own with one lady particularly coming up trumps.

619-Sacombe-Dandelion-Oma-6622

Our own home bred seven-year-old cow, Sacombe Dandelion–Oma certainly did us proud by winning the senior cow class before clinching the female and breed champion.

Dandelion then went on to achieve the title of reserve female interbreed champion and she was a member of the Heygates group of five winning team. Oma is by our past senior herd sire Clonagh World Class and is out of Sacombe Vivienne–Oma, herself a daughter of Rosten Pluto. She was shown with her bull calf at foot, Sacombe Kite.

Meanwhile, our other super star, Sacombe Hawaii’s Jessica dominated the junior section by taking first in the April 2018 heifer class, as well as the junior female championship, overall junior championship and then went on to be reserve female champion to Dandelion. She was also a member of the Heygates group of five winning team. Jessica is by Sterling Haymaker 16 and is out of Sterling Bacardi’s Hawaii, a daughter of Annick Exocet 13, who was purchased at the Sterling dispersal sale in Stirling.

Also picking up a red rosette was our yearling bull Sacombe Joker. This polled bull is by Langmose Ludvig, while, Bridget’s own heifer Perrywood Jasmine took third in the January 2018 heifer class.

628-Sacombe-Joker-6838

Adding to the herd’s success, Sacombe took the best group of three bred by exhibitor, group of three owned by exhibitor and group of four owned by exhibitor, as well as the Premier Breeder Trophy for most points won at the show.

April 2018 – Spring is finally here

After what feels like an eternity of winter, spring has finally sprung into life and while we welcome a new calf crop it is also good to be able to supply bulls to both new and repeat customers alike and we would like to thank them for their custom.

February 2018 – Two new sires purchased

Blackford Hurricane 16 was purchased at the Stirling Bull Sales for 9000gns. A son of the 18,000gns Hockenhull Waterloo, Hurricane has a terrific pedigree to back up his looks.

249-Blackford-Hurricane-9000gns-4660

A bull with terrific presence, length and squareness, we can’t wait to see how he knits with the daughters of Clonagh World Class in particular.

We were also able to purchase Sterling Haymaker 16. Haymaker has an outstanding pedigree being by Dovefields Gallant and with his full sister Sterling Petra’s Cairo already secured we will be looking for Haymaker to breed strong females.

Haymaker notched up a string of red rosettes across the UK show circuit during the 2017 Summer show season including pairing up with his herd mate to be reserve for the Burke Trophy.

October 2017 - Sterling genetics join the Sacombe herd

Every UK Breed record for Simmental females was smashed this month when we purchased the outstanding heifer Sterling Bacardi’s Hawaii for 28,000gns at the Sterling herd dispersal sale.

401-Sterling-Bacardi%27s-Hawaii-0693 copy

Having admired this heifer throughout the 2017 show season we were determined that she be purchased to build a new female line at Sacombe and we could not be more delighted with our purchase.

Also joining her on their way home to Sacombe were two special cows, Sterling Petra’s Cairo at 6000gns and Sterling Grace’s Eloise at 4000gns.  We’re really excited to see how these new females perform at the herd.

September 2017 –  The Toupie line arrives at Sacombe

A new female line from the famous ‘Toupie’ family was introduced with the purchase of two heifers from the long established Deerhurst dispersal sale.

First up was in-calf heifer Deerhurst Hilary’s Grace, a daughter of Penwern Amber, which was purchased for 4000gns. Following her at 2600gns was the maiden heifer, Deerhurst Hatti 16, a Sterling Cotswold daughter.

May 2017 –  Langmose Ludvig P arrives from Denmark

Purchased from Carsten Edrup’s renowned Langmose herd in a private deal, Ludvig has been introduced to cover a growing demand for polled bulls from the commercial producer.

ludvig

A super smooth, long, red bull, Ludvig is without doubt the easiest fleshed polled bull we have ever seen, and he has exceptional feed conversion and growth rates.

March 2017: Sacombe takes top spot at English Premier Sale

It was a successful trip to Newark Livestock Market for the English Premier Show and Sale for us as we took the overall championship with Sacombe Gladiator. This April 2015-born son of former stock bull Clonagh World Class is out of the Glenturk Nomad daughter Sacombe Wanda-Wanse.

13-Sacombe-Gladiator-4000gns-1663

This one may be familiar to viewers of recent "The Farmers Country Showdown" when he stood second in his class at Edenbridge and Oxted Show. Having clinched the championship rosette he later sold for 4000gns to W R Eales and Son, Leicester.

October 2016: Gambler joins Sacombe sire line up

Purchased in Stirling at the October 2016 sale for 9000gns having stood junior champion under judge Vicky Wood, Derrycallaghan Gambler joins the stock sire line up at Sacombe.

629-Derrycallaghan-Gambler-9000gns-8132

Bred by Messrs Stubbs and Burleigh, Northern Ireland, Gambler has a pedigree packed full of performance being that he is by Kilbride Farm Delboy and is out of the Popes Laird daughter, Corskie Vesna and his sister, Beauty, is the mother of a Stirling champion. He also carries a TPI of +84 and a SRI of +91. He was purchased to join the team due to him being incredibly correct and stylish and in the hope that he will knit well with World Class daughters.

August 2016: Edenbridge and Oxted interbreed success for Sacombe Blue Texels

Sam and Scarlett’s Blue Texel flock was on winning form at Edenbridge and Oxted Show towards the end of the show season as they took the breed championship under judge Andy Ryder with a ewe lamb purchased from Stasa Moyse’s Saltire flock. She also went on to take the interbreed championship and teamed up with her twin sister and a home bred tup lamb to take the interbreed group. The sisters also stood reserve interbreed pairs.

Meanwhile in the cattle rings we took success with Sacombe Gladiator, an April 2015-born World Class son who was first in his class. His half sister Sacombe Georgina also won her class while the two youngest heifers, Farah and Flora were second and third in their class and together went on to stand interbreed champion pairs, ending the season unbeaten as a pair in the show ring.

July 2016: Interbreed pairs success at the Royal Welsh Show

This year’s Royal Welsh Show saw us take a second and third in the same class with our World Class daughters, Sacombe Flora and Sacombe Farah, which considering they were giving away plenty of age was a great result. However, following on their success from the National Show last month, they went on to win the breed pairs and later the interbreed exhibitor bred pairs championship. A big thank you to Andrew and Emma for helping us at the show and turning them out so well.

June 2016: National Show success for Team Sacombe

Three Counties was the venue for this year’s Simmental National Show under judge David Lowry and what a show it was for the Sacombe girls and progeny of our former herd sire Clonagh World Class, himself a former National Show male and reserve overall champion.

Sacombe Flora, an April 2014-born heifer won her intermediate heifer class and then went on to stand reserve overall intermediate champion, while her class mate and half sister, Sacombe Farah, stood second to her in the class. These two then went on to win the best pair class.

His pedigree is packed with performance and being an outcross line for the Sacombe herd, we’re looking forward to seeing his progeny.

Fagan was reserve junior champion at Stirling in October and was purchased for 11,000gns.

June 2014: Sacombe Blue Texels celebrate interbreed win at South of England

This year is one with a bit of a difference for the Sacombe show team as with a new baby to keep us occupied and many changes to the farm business going on, we’re not out showing the Simmentals this year, but the sheep show team went down to Kent in March to be fitted alongside Chrissie and Jonathan Long’s Chaileybrook and Littlebrook sheep team.

South of England was the venue for the first outing and we were delighted to hear (from deepest darkest Cornwall as we were down there for a judging stint at Royal Cornwall Show – that our home bred shearling ewe won the any other Continental shearling ewe class against some stiff Blue Texel and Charollais competition and then went on to be stand overall champion under judge Charles Sercombe. On the second day of the show, Suffolk breeder Michael Weaver, then went one step further and gave her the tap for interbreed champion of the show.

Sacombe Class Act 11

This one is by Beili Uh Oh, who was purchased as a lamb for 700gns at Builth and is owned in partnership by Sam and Sophie Long, Jonathan and Chrissie’s daughter and she’s out of a Bishops ewe who was bought as a foundation female at the Bishops dispersal. Next stop for her will be Three Counties.

February 2014: Sacombe Dollar sold to Chapman herd

Helping kick start a busy sales month for the Sacombe herd, we’d like to wish David Bush of the Chapman herd, the very best with his latest acquisition, Sacombe Dollar.

Born March 2012, Dollar is a son of our senior herd sire Clonagh World Class and is out of the Slievenagh Fantastic daughter Sacombe Toccata-Fani. Although originally destined for the Stirling Bull Sales, David showed great interest in this bull and we’re pleased to have been able to sell him Sacombe genetics for his herd.

August 2013: Sacombe success at Edenbridge and Oxted Show

It was a great last show of the season for the Simmental team and a fantastic first and only summer show outing for the Sacombe Blue Texel team at Edenbridge and Oxted Show. We kick started our success by winning the yearling heifer class, female championship and overall championship with Sacombe Dainty, a Clonagh World Class daughter, under judge David Bell.

We also won the January-born yearling bull class with Sacombe Dollar, another byWorld Class and he went on to stand reserve male champion. In the April born heifer class, Sacombe Damelza won her class and Sacombe Dambuster stood second in the April-born yearling bull class, both of these are again by World Class.

Then on the second day of the show we won both the interbreed sire group and the interbreed homebred group with Sacombe Dollar, Dainty and Damelza, ending off the season with a great result for World Class progeny.

Then in the Blue Texels, we competed under John Williams in the Any Other Continental class where our March-born tup lamb won his class of 15 tup lambs and then went on to be section champion. We also won the class of 13 ewe lambs with our homebred March-born ewe lamb and took the reserve championship as well. Both lambs are by Beili Uh Oh, a tup Sam owns in partnership with Sophie Long of the Littlebrook flock. Then on the second day of the show the up lamb took the reserve interbreed under judge Iolo Owen, rounding off a great end to the Sacombe show season for 2013.

August 2013: Sacombe females head to Cornwall to join Chyanhall herd

We’re delighted to announce the private sale of two females, Sacombe Amy-Bouquette and Sacombe Emily-Bouquette to Penny Lally’s Chyanhal herd, based in Cornwall.

amy

Sacombe Amy-Bouquette

Having been particularly impressed with the Bouquette family, Penny has purchased Amy, a Glentuk Nomad daughter out of a Sacombe Nijinsky N68 homebred daughter, along with her calf Sacombe Emily-Bouquette, a February-born Clonagh World Class daughter.

Amy has been shown successfully last summer as she was a first prize winner at the National Show at East of England when she was shown with her calf at foot, Sacombe Dainty-Bouquette who was awarded the calf championship title at the same event. Amy was also a first prize winner at the Royal Norfolk and South of England Show.

Penny purchased her original foundation females from us back in 1987 so we were delighted to see her return to start a new cow family for her Chyanhall herd and we’d like to wish her all the best with this cow and calf and look forward to hearing how she breeds in the future.

July 2013: Sacombe complete the Royal set by winning the Royal Welsh Show

The decision to head to Builth for the Royal Welsh Show was certainly one that paid off for us and we’ll definitely be back there next year. We had an excellent show with the Simmentals and our Blue heifer and even though it was the first time we’ve exhibited there, taking the championship means we have now won a breed championship at the Royal, Royal Highland and now the Royal Welsh.

Leading the way for us was our three year old stock bull Sacombe Balmoral who is owned in partnership with Ann and Tony Jukes of the Swallowhill herd. Balmoral, born January 2010, Balmoral is by Sacombe Nijinsky N68 and is out of the Slievenagh Fantastic daughter Sacombe Louise-Oma. He won his class under judge David Mills and then went on to take the male and overall breed championship.

Sacombe Class Act 11

Also winning her class and making her debut for this year was our March 2008-born cow Perrywood Wispa. Shown with her June-born bull calf Perrywood Excalibur, an Overhill House Volvo son at foot, Wispa is by Skerrington Rajah and is out of Ranurly Mame 3rd. We have now retired her from showing and she will enter our flushing programme.

Sacombe Class Act 11

Both Balmoral and Wispa then went one better to scoop the interbreed team of five award along with a heifer from Hayley Clarke’s Williams herd and two heifers from Boddington Estate. This was a massive achievement for us and one that ranks up there alongside winning the Burke trophy last year with Wipsa and Clonagh World Class.

Sacombe Class Act 11

Also in the breed classes, our April-born yearling bull Sacombe Dambuster stood second in a strong class. He is by World Class and is out of Sacombe Trisha-Kleeb, while taking a third in a tough class of yearling heifers was Sacombe Dainty-Bouquette, another World Class, this time out of Sacombe Amy-Bouquette. Dainty won the calf championship at last year’s National Show.

Our British Blue heifer carried on her great form from Royal Norfolk Show to win an incredibly tough baby heifer class under judge Allan Wilkinson. Tamhorn Helga is by Ballygrange Alex and is out of Tamhorn Diedre and then went on to take the junior championship.

line2

June 2013: Sacombe and Skyfall success at Royal Norfolk Show

Both the Simmental and British Blue show teams celebrated phenomenal success at this year’s Royal Norfolk Show with Sacombe Balmoral winning the senior bull class and then going on to be tapped out as reserve male champion. Born January 2010, Balmoral is by Sacombe Nijinsky N68 and is out of the Slievenagh Fantastic daughter Sacombe Louise-Oma and is owned in partnership with Ann and Tony Jukes of the Swallowhill herd.

Also in the breed classes our yearling bull Sacombe Dambuster won his April-born yearling bull class. This one is by senior herd sire Clonagh World Class and is out of the Glenturk Nomad daughter Sacombe Trisha-Keeb he will likely be for sale in Stirling in October. Next up was Perrywood Coyote who stood second in his class. He is by Grangewood William and is out of Perrywood Vixen, a Nijinsky daughter. In the females our yearling heifer and Clonagh World Class daughter Sacombe Dainty won her class, while on her first show outing Sacombe Demelza stood third in her baby heifer class. Dainty also teamed up with three from Williams Livestock to take the championship in the Coleman Cup team of four held on the afternoon of the show. Not only was this a great result for Sacombe, but even better for the breed as for the last nine years this competition has been won by the Limousin breed.

Sacombe Class Act 11

Teaming up to win the champion Simmental group was Sacombe Balmoral, Sacombe Dambuster and Sacombe Dainty who then went one better to win the interbreed exhibiter bred group on the second day beating stiff competition from other breeds under judge David Leggat.

Our one and only British Blue heifer, Tamhorn Helga did us equally as proud in the Blue classes as she won her yearling heifer class then went on to be placed female champion and then overall breed champion under judge Philip Halhead. Helga was purchased at the Tamhorn dispersal sale last November for 3600gns and is by the proven and successful sire Ballygrange Alex and is out of the Tamhorn Sumo daughter Tamhorn Diedree. Helga also joined in on the action standing reserve in the Blue group in the Coleman Cup before also clinching the reserve interbreed Continental female championship under David Leggat, standing reserve to the overall interbreed of the show.

It really has been a great show for us and many thanks go to the team of helpers on show days. Next stop Royal Welsh!

June 2013: Perrywood Coyote scoops reserve male honours at Highland Show

Our March 2011-born Simmental bull Perrywood Coyote took the reserve male championship honours having won the intermediate bull class under judge Gordon Clark of the Broombrae herd. Coyote is part of our junior sire line up at Sacombe and is by our previous herd sire Grangewood William, a sire who has left exceptional stock in the herd, and is out of Perrywood Vixen.

Sacombe Class Act 11

Perrywood Coyote

Also in our line up we stood third with Sacombe Dainty, a Clonagh World Class daughter out of Sacombe Amy who was shown at foot of her mother last year and picked up the champion calf title at last year’s National Show at East of England. We also picked up a third with our February 2012-born imported junior herd sire Clonguish Duke, a son of Milton Lord Tiffany out of Brogreen Victoria and then a 6th place with Sacombe Dambuster, another by our super herd sire Clonagh World Class, this time out of Sacombe Trisha.

In the British Blue classes, Ben’s heifer Tamhorn Helga, a Ballygrange Alex daughter stood fourth in an strong class under judge Jim Sloan. Next stop for the Sacombe team is the Royal Norfolk Show this week.

line2

March 2013: Strong month for off-farm sales at Sacombe

We’ve had a busy time of late with sales of both males and females off the farm. We’d like to first of all wish Martin Benyon the very best with his recent purchase, the January 2012-born Sacombe Damson-Kleeb. This Clonagh World Class daughter is out of a Milnafua Junior daughter and will likely be included in Martin’s show team this year, so it will be nice to hear how she gets on.

It’s also been a busy time for selling bulls to commercial suckler herds and just recently sons of Grangewood William and Clonagh World Class have been sold to herds in Hertfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Essex. We’d obviously like to wish all our buyers the very best with their new stock bulls.

Having had great success with the Rosten Pluto son, Perrywood Amazon, Charles has since returned to Sacombe to purchase rising two year old females by previous herd sires Grangewood William and Glenturk Nomad. These heifers are all out of great dam lines so will no doubt form sound breeding stock for his herd.

October 2012: Sacombe Class Act sells in Stirling for 8000gns

Yet again Grangewood William sons have left a marked impression as we took the April 2011-born Sacombe Class Act to Stirling this month and sold him for 8000gns.

Sacombe Class Act 11

By William, who has left tremendous male and female offspring at Sacombe, this one is out of the Rosten Pluton daughter Sacombe Tamara-Alfa and he carries one of the best calving ease figures in the catalogue +7.2 as well as a TSI of +66 and a SRI of +74. We’d like to wish new purchasers P and M Miller, Kirkwall, Orkney, the very best with him.

September 2012: Sacombe welcomes new junior sire

Adding to the bull power at Sacombe, we’re pleased to announce the arrival of new junior herd sire Sowenna Class Act 11, a March 2011 born son of Sowenna Womble out of Sowenna Willow, who was purchased privately from Messrs Hawkey, Bodmin, Cornwall. He is the highest Simmental ever recorded through ABRI to date and currently boasts a TSI of +113 and a SRI of +109. He has been used selectively across both high and average figured females in the Sacombe herd and progeny will be due in the summer of 2013.

line2

September 2012: Sacombe Class Act ends 2012 summer season on a high

Our yearling bull Sacombe Class Act, who is for sale in Stirling in October, finished our show season in style this year by winning his class at Edenbridge and Oxted Edenbridge as well as standing reserve in the Beef Superbull competition before going on to Bucks County where he again won his class and then took the reserve breed championship. By the highly successful Grangewood William, Class Act is out of Sacombe Tamara-Alfa, whose pedigree is steeped in some of the classics from the Sacombe herd.

line2

August 2012: Grangewood William sells in private sale to Drumsleed

It was a sad day in August when we bid farewell to Grangewood William our very successful herd sire. He has been sold in a private deal for an undisclosed sum to Drumsleed Simmentals, owned by Gerald and Morag Smith, Aberdeenshire. With two very strong crops on the ground by him and having been used heavily again within the herd this year we reluctantly agreed to sell him in order to be able to retain the majority of his daughters for breeding.

Clonagh World Class

His first daughter sold, Sacombe Corona Kleeb achieved a price of 6200gns at the Leading Ladies sale in Carlisle, while other notable progeny from his first crop include Sacome Class Act and Sacombe Cameo Kleeb. We hope that he goes on to do as well for Drumsleed as he has for us.

line2

August 2012: Sacombe Corona-Kleeb sells for 6200gns at Leading Ladies in Carlisle

We were absolutely delighted to support the inaugural Leading Ladies sale in Carlisle this month and trade certainly didn’t disappoint with a strong average seen across the sale.

Our April 2011-born Sacombe Corona-Kleeb sold for 6200gns to new breeders Hunnyhill Farm, Newport, Isle of Wight. By the 11,000gns Grangewood William, she is out of the Milnafua Junior daughter Sacombe Tilly-Kleeb. She carries a SRI of +65 and a milk figure of +6 as well as calving ease of +4.

Clonagh World Class

We’d like to wish her purchaser the very best for the future and hope the Kleeb family continues to perform as well for them as they do at Sacombe.

line2

July 2012: Team Sacombe success at English National Show

It really has been a phenomenal show season this summer and team Sacombe continued a cracking run of results at this year’s English National Simmental show, which was held at the East of England Show, Peterborough.

Clonagh World Class

Leading the way for us in majestic style was our senior bull, Clonagh World Class, a Kilbride Farm Newry son out of Clonagh Posh Klowna. He won the senior bull class and then went on to secure the male and overall reserve breed championship under judge Robin Boyd of the Slievenagh herd. We have received some fantastic comments about World Class and Robin himself praised the bull for his style, presence, cleanliness and natural muscling. World Class then teamed up with our intermediate show cow Perrywood Wispa to take the Simmental pairs class and the group of three (alongside Sacombe Bridget-Alfa) as well as being part of the winning interbreed beef quartet championship, held on the last day of the show and judged by Bob and Kay Adam of the Newhouse Charolais and Limousin herds. We’ve got some fantastic progeny on the ground by him, including a heifer calf Sacombe Dainty-Bouquette, who secured the champion calf title at the same show, so the next few years will be very exciting indeed seeing how his progeny perform in the herd.

Clonagh World Class

Perrywood Wispa

Fresh from her Burke Trophy win alongside World Class at Norfolk Show earlier in the month, Perrywood Wispa was yet again on fantastic form clinching the cow born in 2007 or 2008 class with her World Class-sired heifer calf Perrywood Diamond at foot. Wispa is by Skerrington Rajah and is out of Ranfurly Mame 3rd. She then returned to winning ways with World Class to win the Simmental Pairs Class and the Simmental Group of Three class (alongside Sacombe Bridget-Alfa) as well as being part of the interbreed quartet on the final day.

Clonagh World Class

Clonagh World Class

Sacombe Amy-Bouquette

Securing a win in the 2009-born cow class was Sacombe Amy-Bouquette, a March 2009-born Glenturk Nomad daughter out of Sacombe Tory-Bouquette. She is also the dam of the champion calf of the show, Sacombe Dainty-Bouquette and now finishes her show season having been unbeaten in four of the finest and strongest classes of Simmental cattle this year.

Sacombe Tabitha-Bouquette

Homebred on both sides, our senior cow, Sacombe Tabitha-Bouquette held her own well standing second in a tough class. By Sacombe Nijinskey N68, she is out of Sacombe Nicola-Bouquette and was shown with her November 2011-born bull calf at foot Sacombe Centurion by Grangewood William and is back in calf to him again.

Sacombe Bridget-Alfa

Adding to a fistful of rosettes this year, Bridget stood second in a very strong April 2010-born class to the reserve female champion of the show. June 2012: Sacombe and Perrywood Simmentals win the Burke Trophy and have an amazing Royal Norfolk Show

Well what a show Royal Norfolk was......in all our years showing we’ve never had a show quite like it. Carrying on his fantastic form already this summer was our senior stock sire Clonagh World Class who won his class and then went on to stand male champion and overall breed champion under judge John Moore of the Omorga herd. Then in the females and just fresh from calving a World Class heifer calf, Perrywood Wispa stood second in the cow class and then went on to stand reserve female champion, while Sacombe Bridget won the two year old heifer class and Sacombe Amy also won the three year old class. Then in the exhibitor bred group class Wispa, Amy and Bridget teamed up to stand first.

Then on the second day of the show our success continued to roll as World Class was tapped out to take the male Continental interbreed championship under judge and Galloway breeder Jim Ross before pairing up with Perrywood Wispa and her calf, Diamond, to take the most prestigious award we have ever won, the coveted Burke Trophy. This was a massive achievement for the herd and family and we’d like to thank our expert handlers, Rhys Grenham, Jimmy McMillan and Ruby Wright.

June 2012: Sacombe success at Royal Highland Show

What a show......it might have been a wash out in terms of the weather, but we’re incredibly pleased to have made the decision to travel to Edinburgh to exhibit at this year’s Royal Highland Show. Not only was it a successful show in the judging ring, we have had many enquiries regarding our stock and it has been great to catch up with some of our Simmental friends further afield.

In the judging we were pleased to win the senior bull class with Clonagh World Class. This Kilbride Farm Newry son out of Clonagh Posh Klowna has had a great start to the show season and we had many favourable comments from the ringside as to how he is looking, it was also great to have his breeder Garrett Behan there on the day to witness the bull in all his glory. Also in the team was our yearling heifer Sacombe Cameo-Kleeb, who is a daughter of our other main herd sire Grangewood William out of Sacombe Tamar-Kleeb. She stood second in an incredibly tough baby heifer class. We then stood fourth in an equally strong class of yearling bulls with Sacombe Class Act, another by William, this time out of Sacombe Tamara Alfa.

Clonagh World Class

Next stop for us is the Royal Norfolk Show followed by the East of England for the English National Simmental Show so we look forward to catching up with everyone there.

At the same show our senior cow Sacombe Tabitha-Bouquette won her class and then went on to take the female championship and reserve breed championship behind World Class, while Sacombe Amy won the junior cow class with her World Class-sired heifer calf at foot and Sacombe Corona took a third in the yearling heifer class and Sacombe Class Act stood second in the yearling bull class as well as took third in the super bull competition. Our next trip will be a long one as we will be venturing North to the Royal Highland Show so look forward to catching up with some new faces later in the month.

September 2011: Sacombe and Perrywood herds dominate South East herd competition

We’re absolutely delighted with the results with this year’s South East herd competition, judged by Boddington Estate stockman Jimmy MacMillan.

Not only did the Sacombe herd win the Large herds category, but we also went one better to win the Revelex trophy for the champion herd, which is a huge achievement seeing as this award has never been won before by a herd with more than 40 cows. The Perrywood herd also featured heavily in the individual awards, taking the award for the best dam and progeny was Perrywood Wispa with her calf Perrywood Champion at foot, who is by our herd sire Clonagh World Class. We also won the best heifer calf section with Perrywood Caramel, again by World Class.

Our previous herd sire, Glenturk Nomad, won the best stock bull section and Sacombe won the Shebdon trophy for the best group of maiden heifers.

May 2011 - Pode Hole Warrant joins Sacombe sire line up

We are delighted to announce the arrival of Pode Hole Warrant as our new herd sire. We have been looking for a bull from the Killane Fauna cow family for years and finally we have found him. Warrant is a three year old bull with great size, fleshing and locomotion, coupled with an outstanding pedigree. He has already proven himself by leaving two outstanding crops of calves for the Horrel family’s Pode Hole herd, so we will be very excited to see what he can do for us. No doubt he will compliment Clonagh World Class and Grangewood William, both of whom have produced a very promising crop of calves this spring, much admired by 60 visitors from the Federation of Stockmen's club when we hosted their annual Inter county stock judging competition.

This year’s National Simmental Show took place at the Great Yorkshire Show  where some 140 Simmentals were paraded in front of judge and breeder  Roget birch of the Pasturefields herd.

Our junior herd sire Clonagh World Class, by Kilbride Farm Newry, stood  third in a tough senior bull class as there wasn’t a class for his true  age group, but in the junior championship he was entitled to compete as  the best bull under two years of age. We then went on to take the junior male championship and reserve overall junior championship.

Heifer classes were incredibly tough and we stood fifth in a very hard  yearling heifer class with Clonagh Adorable, by Banwy T-Rex, and then  took a sixth prize with Sacombe Willow-Bouquette, our March 2008-born  heifer. We were delighted to have Garrett Behan over from Ireland to  help show the cattle for us. Garrett bred World Class and Adorable so it was great for him to be showing them for us and we’d like to help him  for all his hard work at the show.

World Class was bought as a yearling bull last year from Garrett  Behan’s reduction sale. We’re extremely pleased with how World Class is  looking, he’s a well grown, clean, balanced bull with great muscling and mobility.

Our other Irish-bred member of the show team, Clonagh Adorable, stood  second in a very strong yearling heifer class and took the reserve  junior championship ticket as well. Our two year old heifer Sacombe  Willow stood sixth in a strong two year old class which saw the eventual champion and reserve champion come from this class.

June 2010: Sacombe celebrate reserve championship at Herts County Show.

Our first show of the year came in the form of Herts County, where we took a team of four cattle and celebrated a successful day’s showing under  judge and breeder Vicki Wood of the Popes herd. Our highlight of the  show was taking a first prize with our new junior stock sire Clonagh  World Class who was bought from Garrett Behan’s major reduction sale  last year. World Class is by Killbride Farm Newry and is out of Clonagh  Posh-Klowna and went on to take the male championship as well as the  reserve overall championship.

Our other Irish addition to the herd, Clonagh Adorable, also bought from  the sale, stood first in a tough yearling heifer class. Adorable is by  Banwy T-Rex and is out of Clonagh Norma. In the same class we stood 4th  with Sacombe Amy-Bpuquette, a daughter of Glenturk Nomad out of Sacombe  Tory-Bouquette, while our two year old heifer Sacombe Willow-Bouquette, a Sacombe Nikinsky daughter out of Sacombe Mable-Bouquette stood second  in yet another tough class. Simmental numbers at Herts were incredibly  strong this year so we were very pleased to do so well on our first  outing of the year. March 2010: Sacombe celebrate sale success to pedigree and commercial customers.

A number of Simmental bulls have been sold off farm recently, the first  of which was Sacombe Westpoint W10. He has gone to P and S Rowland,  Essex, who supply some 120 head of finished cattle each year to  Humphreys, the abattoir in which our extra stock of beef for Bridget B’s is sourced from.

Next we’re pleased to announced the sale of our past and very successful  herd sire Rosten Pluto. He has found a new home with J Learmouth in  Aberdeenshire, who has started a new 120-cow suckler herd. Again  sticking with past herd sires, we also sold Sacombe Nijinsky, who has  sired some fantastic males and females for us. He has gone to Messrs  Barbour of the Kingarth herd, Leicestershire. Completing the sale of  bulls, Duncan Parker, Bucks, has just bought another one of our past  sires, Perrywood Warrier.

We also sold a run of seven unregistered heifers at Newark Livestock  Market. These topped at £1250 and averaged £1180, with six of them going to one Yorkshire-based producer and the other one going to rob  Hopkinson of Hollingwood Simmentals. Off the back of this sale Mr  Hopkinson came back on farm and bought another six heifers.

We would like to wish all our customers the very best of success with their Sacombe and Perrywood stock.

October 2009: Introducing Irish bloodlines

October has been an exciting month already at Sacombe with the purchase of two  new bloodlines in to the herd. In the search for a new junior stock bull we took a trip across the water to Garrett and Lyndsey Behan’s major  reduction sale of their Clonagh herd. There we bought the striking 11  month old young bull Clonagh World Class for 6600 euro.

World Class is a Kilbride Farm Newry son out of Clonagh Posh-Klowna, who is a daughter of Anatrim Jacob. We were particualry impressed with his  growth rate for his age, his correctness and power in his backend. He  has been shown successfully on the Irish summer show circuit and will be heading to the Irish National championships before heading over to join the herd.

To celebrate our 40th anniversary this year, we also decided to introduce  some new female bloodlines to the herd, so at the same we bought the 10  month old and incredibly stunning heifer Clonagh Adorable for 3200 euro. Adorable is a daughter of the herd’s power house of a stock bull Banwy  T-Rex and is out of the Freighduff Brendan daughter Clonagh Norma.

Adorable is a tall, growth heifer with great style and presence. She has been  shown this year on the Irish circuit and took first prizes at Tullamore  National Livestock Show, Cappamore and Moate. She is likely to be part  of our 2010 show team.

July 2009: Sacombe success at the last Royal Show

Well it was a pretty bizarre show with a less than dynamic atmosphere, but we enjoyed our last ever Royal Show last week.

We took a small team up to Stoneleigh to take part in the last show and  were fortunate to stand second in a tough yearling heifer class with  Bridget’s own heifer Perrywood Wispa. This March 2008 born was highly  admired as a young calf where she stood champion calf at Edenbridge and  Oxted Show. Wispa is by Skerrington Rajah and out of Ranfurly Mame 3rd (ET).

In a tough yearling bull class we stood fifth with Sacombe Winston W25, an April 2008 bull by Glenturk Nomad out of Sacombe Nesta-Alfa. This  was the first outing for this bull and is currently offered for sale.

May 2009: First show outing of the year is a huge success for Sacombe

Herts Show was our first outing for the Sacombe Simmental show team and we  were incredibly pleased with the results. It’s always a busy show for  us, as we have the Bridget B’s meat stand in the food hall as well, but  we were fortunate to pick up a couple of second prize rosettes as well  as a first in the pairs class.

We stood 2nd with our 3 year old cow and calf Sacombe Tory Bouquette and 2nd with our yearling heifer Sacombe Willow Bouquette. Our junior bull Perrywood warrior also stood 2nd place with Sacombe Winston coming 4th place.

For the interbreed pairs class, Sacombe Willow Bouquette and Perrywood  Wispa joined forces and took a first prize in an incredibly strong  class.

In the young handler’s classes, Ben Borlase stood 2nd with Sacombe Amy and Daniel Dawkins stood 6th in an incredibly tough senior class with Perrywood Wispa.
